So I started with a $150.00 subwoofer (private ticket through Circuit city) . It was rated a 4.8 out of 5 so I gave it shot. Everbody said "broad sub for the money". Well it was honest that, it was extremely muddy sounding. Then I went to a Klipsh Synergy 10" for $280 through Best Win. Again sizable reviews, plus it was $120 off the $399 retail. Remarkable clearer in sound, substantial power and fills the room BUT the sub had dreadful definition for bass guitar. Sooo I finally unprejudiced stepped it up and spent the extra buck (and came across a deal) to go to the Definitive Tech ProSub 800. WOW what a inequity! Not only did the bass rolloff like a waterfall but the definition was perfection. The funniest thing is that this has to be the SMALLEST, MOST, Grand sub on the market. Everything I saw was nasty in size...this thing is so shrimp! So if you aren't able to conceal your sub late anything, this unit can easily be out in the commence and not be a distraction. My sub is paired up with(2) ProMontior 800 front speakers and Yamaha V663 receiver. I also had (2) existing in-wall Jamo speakers for surround. All together the system sounds phenomonal for music...plus its all so little and smart looking. I have an commence thought position (vaulted ceiling and loft) . Combo large room and dining room is about 525 sq. ft and the sound radiants thougout the spot.
I was lucky enough to gather this ProSub with minor cosmetic injure on Amazon for $299. After hearing and seeing it, I would highly recommend this sub for $399, personally I reflect they could obtain away with $499 since it offers premium bass definition in such a industry leading limited size.
I'm very elated with the sound and functionality of the Definitive sub. The bass is bone-rattling and will shake your whole house, but it is very shipshape sounding with no vibration in the case itself. I've got it connected with a single Monster subwoofer cable to my Onkyo receiver. Very easy setup. The appearance is very ravishing. I like the volume control on the side. The Prosub 800 is perfect for a tiny living room.
The only gripe I have is that it has an auto-off feature. If the sub doesn't receive a bass signal after about an hour, it shuts off. So when I'm watching a TV program or movie with lots of dialogue it will shut off and then pop serve on (with a noticeable popping sound) when there is either an explosion or loud music. It is a runt gripe because you never have to danger about leaving it on accidentally.
Listening to music is a dream with this sub. I'm in to rock and heavy metal, so this sub makes it seem as though a machine gun is going off in my house (scares the dog) . I admire it.
Bought this sub after weeks of research and testing. I tested everything from definitive tech, phase tech, mirage, klipsch, polk, and many others and this sub fit the bill in both size and sound quality for my 17x13 room. Because it is down firing you feel very explosion the seat of the pants no matter where the sub is located. If your looking for some thump in a exiguous package you cant go nefarious with this sub.
